Two weeks ago, my parents were able to come up to visit and celebrate Karina's 2nd birthday. Karina was thrilled to have Mormor and Mimi (what she calls Morfar) there with her partying non-stop.
The cherry blossoms in the neighborhood were blossoming and pretty:
There are a bunch of playgrounds in our neighborhood that we frequently pass when we go on walks and Morfar managed to get Karina to overcome her recent fear of slides. Karina had been too scared to go down before, but got the courage with Morfar's help. She is now an expert at slides and always wants to play on them when we go for walks.
Running at full speed together:
We went to Port Discovery, the children's museum in Baltimore, one afternoon to take advantage of their $2 family night. Karina was too little for many of the activities/exhibits, but she had a blast with what she could do.
Painting rocks with water:
Dancing on a mat:
Cooking in a play kitchen:
Assembling Mr. Potato Head:
Petting a cow:
Karina loved playing soccer. When we went by that area early on, it was just big kids playing, but later on we were lucky to stumble across toddlers and preschoolers going at it. Karina was actually pretty good and quickly understood how to kick the ball. She had so much fun chasing the ball and the other kids around the field. In this next picture, she had just expertly kicked the ball:
Running after the ball:
Family shot:-) Since Karina refuses to pose/smile at the camera anymore, we were just happy to get a family photo with her in a calm, happy mood.
With Mimi and Mormor:
Karina was thrilled to have Mormor tickle her in the car on many occasions:
When I walk Snoopy alone and have Karina, I wear her the entire time and don't let her come down, but when Nate is there, she gets to walk/run/meander on foot when we are close to home. Here she is holding Morfor's hand:
Being silly on a walk:
Mormor was thrilled to get to hold Karina too:
For Karina's birthday we celebrated by eating lunch at Chick-Fil-A (Karina's favorite) and had birthday cupcakes and presents later in the day. She was pretty funny because we couldn't convince her that her cupcakes were tasty treats, even though she had devoured all the batter and frosting we gave her while we were making them. Even when we picked off the few M&M's on the frosting (M&M's are among her favorite treats), she wouldn't eat the M&M's or the cupcake. Finally, we gave her some orange juice that she got quite excited about, so she had birthday OJ while we ate the cupcakes. The next day, she was excited to eat cupcakes and her excitement continued until they were all gone.
Karina's 2-year doctor's appointment was highly anticipated because we had been making predictions about who was bigger: Karina or Snoopy. Unfortunately for Karina, Snoopy has recently gained weight and was 27.8 pounds (oops!!). (For reference, his skinny, i.e. healthy, weight is 25 pounds, and his fattest weight has been 28.5 pounds). Karina weighed in at 27.25 pounds. Close, but still less than Snoopy. She should overtake him soon if we keep doing our best to fatten her up and put Snoopy on a beagle diet.
Her 2-year stats were:
Weight: 27.25 pounds (just above 50th percentile)
Height: 35.75 inches (90th percentile)
Head Circumference: 49.5 cm (90-95th percentile)
She's a happy, healthy 2-year old and we are grateful for that!
