Our biggest excitement the past couple of weeks has been Nate growing his beard. His excuse to me was that the dermatologist told him he shouldn't shave for awhile until a mole she removed had healed. Nate took this advice very seriously, and didn't shave for a month, much to my chagrin. Nate finally decided to shave off his beard today and was determined to make himself look silly in the process. He was using a cheap razor, so the shapes he made on his face weren't overly fancy, but here are Nate's creations:
The reverse mohawk with ugly mustache:
Racing stripes:
Man with mange:
Ugly mustache plus sideburns (Nate calls it the "Reverse Hitler"):
And for once it wasn't difficult to get Nate to smile for the camera:-) I had to pick up Karina from preschool and my mom from the airport, so I didn't get an 'after-picture' of Nate clean shaven. Too bad, because that is what looks best.
The girls love playing together, despite their arguments with each other. They even managed to share the tiny seat of their train:
Princess Anna is a frequent sight in our house. I'll have to take a picture of her in her Sleepy Beauty gown that she just got. Every time we go out in public with her wearing the Sleepy Beauty dress, she gets comment after comment about a princess being nearby. We have also had people bow to her, the princess.
In the next picture, Karina jumping high in the air! Lydia likes to jump too. Of course when Lydia jumps, she just bends down in a squat and then straightens up quickly, and then she claps because she is so proud that she 'jumped', just like Karina.
Lydia has become quite the chatterbox. It seems like she is learning 10+ new words per day. She's a little sponge. I still think it's funny that her third two-word phrase after 'hi __' and 'bye __' (depending on the person's name) was 'poop bag'. Karina frequently asks for a poop bag (obviously a clean and unused one) on our daily walks so that she can fill the bag with leaves she finds along the way. Lydia apparently picked up that it was something important to know how to say. Lydia's cutest word that she learned today was "knock knock", complete with the knocking motion. She heard my mom saying it and learned it quickly.
Over the weekend, our neighborhood HOA had their annual block party with yummy catered food, DJ, and two bouncy houses. Last year there was only one bouncy house and the big kids were too crazy for the little ones to join in. Having an additional bouncy house for the 5 and under crowd meant that Karina stayed in it bouncing for hours (literally). We couldn't get her to leave and she was exhausted and hungry when we finally managed to drag her out. Lydia enjoyed the bouncing too (with Mommy helping).
My mom arrived today and will be here for more than a week. I'm sure the girls will love the extra attention.
