Karina is cute too.
And so is Derek.
The girls both enjoy helping in the kitchen, though when making desserts, I wonder how much actually escapes their mouths to go into the oven.
We made an attempt at getting all the kids with Snoopy in the same picture. It was really hard since Snoopy wouldn't sit still, Derek wouldn't consistently look at the camera because he was trying to eat the grass, and the girls were kind of hit or miss. This picture was probably the best one, but still not great. We will probably have to try again later to get a "kids picture".
We tried again a few days later inside and got a better one on the couch, though Tanja did some photo editing on it to make it happen. See if you can figure out where the image manipulation is.
Derek liked flying around. He has cute vampire teeth, but whenever he smiles, his lips cover them, so it is really hard to get a picture of them. I'm afraid his other teeth will grow in before we are able to document it.
Karina's smile, on the other hand, shows off all of her teeth. The girls had their dental checkup this week, and were both cavity free. Lydia even sat through the entire checkup and let the dentist actually clean her teeth (her first time was just a practice run with the dentist counting her teeth one by one).
My brother Aaron came to visit for a few days from Alaska. He occasionally takes classes at a facility in West Virginia (about 70 miles away), so when he is out on this side of the country, we try to have him over for a weekend. This time, we went to the Newseum in DC since it was a free day there and at other museums with ties to the Smithsonian Institute. The Newseum is a museum about journalism and the news, and it's one of our favorites. I really like the section of the Berlin Wall, and the crumpled antenna from the World Trade Center that they have on display there. We spent a lot of time practicing being newscasters and also looking at all the Pulitzer Prize winning photographs from the last 100 years.
The following segment is one of Karina's newscaster videos. She made 5 or 6 videos presenting things like the weather, sports, and cherry blossoms. A few years ago, the Newseum would email the videos to you, but they don't do that anymore. We used the phone to take a video of her segment on the big screen, but the background noise is annoying and loud. For the record, in this video, Karina says the Broncos got 8 points and the Ravens got 5. She says it was a very good game! Never mind that she is presenting in front of a baseball field.
One of the cool places in the Newseum is the outdoor terrace with a perfect view of the Capitol. Thanks for coming, Aaron! Hope the Costco run for supplies from the mainland is helpful to you and your family in the tundra where you have to pay Alaska prices!
A few days after dropping Aaron off at his class, Mormor came to visit. The kids were excited to have so many visitors, and Mormor is always good for tickling.
Derek finally started eating baby food and baby cereal thanks to Mormor's persistence.
Everyone wanted a chance to hold Derek.
Derek was passed around so often, maybe he got confused who was holding him at any given moment in time, based on his facial expression in this picture.
Boxes are a great toy to play in.
Derek loved bouncing in his jump a roo, though now, he is crawling and getting pretty good at it. He can push himself from a crawl into a sitting position, climb over the top of me when I am lying on the floor, and pulls himself up into a standing position against boxes. Tanja has gotten Derek to take a few steps behind walker toys with her helping him keep his balance. With so many options to be mobile, I think the jump a roo is losing some of its appeal to him now. Makes things problematic since he loves getting into Snoopy's food bowl and the laptop cords.
