Miami Part 2

We are going to go a little out of order here chronologically, primarily because we haven't gone through and decided which pictures from Disney World we are going to post on the blog. So last post was full of pictures from before Disney World, this one will be the pictures from Miami after Disney World. Afterwards, we will pull together a few posts from our time at Disney World.

Lydia is super cuddly with Snoopy, sometimes excessively so. I don't think he likes being squished.

Much better to let him sprawl across your lap and pet him gently.

Derek was being silly riding backwards on a rocking horse.

Even though we were on vacation, the girls still had to keep up with practicing their piano. Here's Karina "pouting" about it.

We took another trip to Bill Baggs State Park and were only able to stay for a short time because of a thunderstorm that moved through the area. The clouds in the distance behind the lighthouse in this picture were bringing a lot of heavy rain with them.

Tanja had accidentally fallen asleep one night without taking her contacts out and when she woke, her eyes were puffy and hurt. She wound up going to an urgent care where they dilated her pupils and found she had corneal abrasions on both eyes, so to give it time to heal, she needed to stay out of the pool and ocean and not wear her contacts for a few weeks. Because of her dilated pupils, she also was supposed to avoid the sunshine, so she donned a wide brim hat and sunglasses. I think she looked very stylish and movie star-esque.

Tanja's brother Thomas thinks the kids' name for Mike (Mimi) is hilarious and apparently he gets Mimi a yearly gag gift for his birthday. Mimi proudly put on this gag gift shirt for a few pictures.

Lydia thought Mimi's shirt was funny too.

Mimi and Karina started reading a story from C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia one afternoon. Derek wanted to read the same story too. Fortunately, they had two copies of the book there, so while Mimi was reading to Karina, I got to read the same story to Derek. He didn't make it past the first or second page before he was fast asleep on my lap. I'm not sure why he thought it would be an interesting story; maybe he just wanted to be like Karina. It definitely worked well for a bedtime story after he had been running around and swimming all day.

Poor Snoopy had turkey on the back of his neck that he couldn't find as he was sniffing around looking for it on the floor.

Derek had fun being towed around by Karina in the pool.

After watching Karina doing her "invisible bench" trick by sitting on the beach ball under water and laughing hysterically when the ball shot out of the water, Derek wanted to give it a try.  He did it over and over and over again with Mimi, laughing hysterically each time.  Unfortunately, the time when Tanja decided to film it, he wound up splashing a lot of water into his mouth and face. Poor guy.

Here he is after a more successful attempt.

The girls liked wearing their goggles so they could look at each other under the water.

We happened to watch some of America's Funniest Home Videos one night. I remember when I watched it as a kid and laughed every week when it first started. Honestly, I had no idea it was still on in this era of viral videos on demand. The kids thought it was hilarious and we enjoyed laughing along with them.

Snoopy was well cared for there.

Karina practiced diving down to the bottom of the pool to retrieve various objects. She got pretty good at it and was pulling things up from between 4 and 5 feet of water.

More pictures of Karina towing people around the pool.

The pool was definitely a highlight of our stay in Miami with Mimi and Mormor.
