Then she decided to be Snow White another day. The picture was improved when she decided she wanted to eat an apple just like Snow White.

Here are the "first day of school" pictures. Lydia started first grade.
Karina started third grade.
Karina is being silly giving the thumbs down because summer vacation is over.
Derek started his preschool class a couple days after the girls. He goes to a preschool program at the same elementary school as the girls for 2.5 hours, four days per week. He was very excited to be a big boy going to school.
Here he is with Tanja in front of the school. His teacher is in the background.
The kids do strange things with Snoopy, but he doesn't seem to mind most of the time. Here he is tucked underneath a blanket, possibly during a nap.
Lydia built Snoopy a fort out of pillows. He didn't seem to care.
We had our yearly neighborhood block party in our cul-de-sac hosted by our Home Owners Association (HOA). One of the highlights was a face painting tent - the person they had doing it this year was particularly talented in my opinion. Lydia became a tiger with cool colored fur.
Derek got a dragon "tattoo" on his arm. When he first sat down on the chair to get his face painted, he had his hands covering his face. The lady asked if he wanted his face painted, and he said 'yes', with his hands and arms blocking his face. The lady decided to paint his arm instead and Derek enjoyed watching it.
Karina's was the funniest one as she became a dog complete with tongue sticking out. I don't know what Snoopy thought of the strange kids.
The other fun thing for the kids was the balloon art. Derek got a sword and sheath (and managed to go through three of them before the night was over as he kept using it as a weapon and hitting the street, trees, people, etc. and popping it).
Lydia had a fish with pouty lips.
Karina wanted to accessorize her face paint and so had a dog bone made.
Our kids go through a lot of peanut butter whether they are eating it in a sandwich or straight out of the jar.

Mormor came home with Tanja and the kids from Miami and stayed for a couple weeks as the kids were starting school. It was nice to have her here and the kids loved the extra attention.
The kids had a sleepover one non-school night in Karina's room. For the first time, the girls invited Derek to take part too, and he was thrilled to be included. They played games, read stories, and slept on the floor despite Karina having a queen sized bed. Derek slept surrounded by all his stuffed animals. He did leave the sleepover in the middle of the night though and came to our room to sleep in his toddler bed.
Derek got into the dress-up costumes one evening and threw on a construction vest and police hat. Then he decided he had done enough in the day and fell completely asleep in the chair. We found him like that and took several pictures. Lydia decided it would be funny to hang a bridal veil over his foot and then photo-bomb the picture with her apple slice smile for extra silliness. It is not uncommon for Derek to fall asleep in strange places and positions at the end of the day.
Grandma sent some Halloween crafts and the kids went to work immediately on these masks and other decor with a lot of stickers.
The girls have joined a community soccer league and have enjoyed playing a game every week. Lydia's weekly soccer is on Saturday with the first half taken up by a practice and the second half with a scrimmage against another team. Karina has practices on Friday evening and a game every Saturday. I have enjoyed watching them learn the game and have fun running around chasing the ball. I help out with Karina's team as an unofficial assistant coach and I am very proud of the progress she and her team have made thus far over the course of the 8-week season. Of course, I'm one of the louder voices on the sidelines cheering them on and encouraging them. Here they are in their soccer uniforms. Each team in the league is named for a country, so Karina plays for Brazil and Lydia is on Germany.
Snoopy sometimes forgets how old he is and tries to do things that he shouldn't for his health if not just because it is bad manners. He was trying to spy on what sniffs were emanating from the kitchen table one day. We get nervous he will hurt his back.
