In August we went to Dress Like a Cow Day at Chick Fil A. The kids had already taken the white cow spots off their black shirts, but they did get to meet a cow. Derek was excited.
This was Lydia and Karina's first day of soccer practice in September:
This is Lydia's 1st grade class dressed up for Halloween. Lydia is standing towards the right in a wizard robe and hat.
Lydia sold girl scout cookies with her troop in November. This was her first day selling cookies, and they were outside of a grocery store. I think she thought it was fun. It was rather chilly though.
Karina's class made turkeys out of an apple and candy at the class Thanksgiving party. Here are Karina and Orly:
We went to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia after Christmas. The kids watched Toy Story on the way there in the car. Derek held Buzz Lightyear (a character in Toy Story), while watching the movie. He had Buzz doing the same actions and saying the same things as the movie Buzz, and was enthralled.

We all liked operating this construction vehicle. There were 4 different sets of controls needed to operate it, so it was a challenge to pick up the foam block.

When Lydia banged on the drum, the air pushed out of the drum made the glittery tiles wiggle.

One day Derek wanted to take some selfies to send to Nate at work. I joined him for the pictures:
Derek enjoys library classes where the kids are read to, sing, dance, and make crafts. We attended one where the kids were supposed to dress up like a pirate or a princess. Derek made the hat in class.
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we went to a Day of Service. First we tied blankets, decorated cookies for teachers, and then spent a couple hours making assembly line meal kits for people in need. Groups of 6 or so people worked mini assembly lines. There was a person holding a bag, a few people scooping foods into the bag (rice, soy, spices, vitamins). Then a weigher would make sure the bag weighed between 390 and 400 grams. Finally the last person sealed the bag. With all the volunteers over 100,000 meals were bagged during the day. Karina and Lydia said they want to do it again next year.
Lydia also invented a job for herself and delivered completed boxes of 36 meals to the other side of the room.

After we took down our Christmas tree, Karina asked if she could vacuum up the needles. Derek got in on the action too with his non-functioning toy vacuum.
