June and half of July have now flown by. We've gone on a few day trips and a 3-day trip to Pennsylvania. Strange to think my big girl is going to start Pre-K next month.
The girls enjoy dressing up and running around:
Lydia has taken to wearing high heels and other princess attire. Surprisingly, she manages not to fall down while walking in 'glass slippers'. Karina likes to get in on the action too with made up dresses in addition to the heels.
I wanted to get a nice picture of Karina and Lydia posing together, so that I can update the large photos above our fireplace in the family room. Karina is at a stage where she wants to be the star of every picture, which is great for a photo shoot. Lydia, however, likes to scream 'NOOO!' at me every time I take out the camera. Anyway, I didn't ever get both girls to look at the camera at the same time with a content/non-angry expression. Maybe next time. Karina was happy to pose at least.
We have been preaching safety to the girls on our walks and insist that they have to stay close by and hold someone's hand when we go across the street. Fortunately, our neighborhood is quiet and calm, so in some stretches, they are allowed to go if they are holding each other's hand.
At the end of June we decided to go to Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster, PA. We made a three-day, two-night trip out of it. Dutch Wonderland is an amusement park targeted toward the 2 to 10 year old crowd. We spent a day and a half in the amusement park and also went to an Amish farm to eat home-made ice cream and watch their cows being milked.
And we went to Chocolate World in Hershey the last morning and got to go on their chocolate ride, where they teach you how they make chocolate. We actually went on the ride twice because everyone gets a piece of chocolate at the end. (KitKats on the day we went). :-)
There was also a little water park there and the girls had a blast.
Nate kept asking Karina and Lydia if they would go down a water slide with him, since neither wanted to go down by themselves, and Karina kept refusing Nate. He finally got Lydia to go down one with him, and he seemed to enjoy it much more than her:-) He also got scolded by one of the workers/lifeguards who said the slide was only for children.
After happily going on the Merry-Go-Round a couple times, Lydia decided it was scary. It was about at this time that Karina decided it was fun. Go figure.
Here was a ride Karina didn't want to go on, but Lydia did, and I was impressed that a barely 2-year-old would sit independently in the ride and enjoy flying around in her car without getting scared.
A cool little manual train let them peddle (with their hands) around a train track. Karina raced around the track independently, but Lydia wasn't quite coordinated enough to move fast enough and an employee had to push her train around. Most little kids did need extra help, so Lydia did fine, and had fun.

Karina liked steering around the race track in this car. We had fun with her first turning left until the wheel hit the center rod, and then veering right so that the opposite wheel hit the center rod. She was a crazy driver swinging all around. Lydia thought the cars were too noisy and didn't even want to ride them despite us trying to take her on it twice.

It was a fun time. We also managed to score 'rain tickets' good for any day the rest of the year, since in the afternoon a couple of shows were cancelled and rides were shut down due to some lightning in the area. I'm sure the girls will enjoy going back. Dutch Wonderland certainly wasn't Disney World, but it was ok.
