We made a trip to Lowe's for some supplies. Our girls are big fans of any store that has "special carts", e.g. something more exciting than the usual plain baskets. Lowe's delivers with their race car themed carts. Unfortunately, the carts at our local Lowe's have all been stripped so they no longer have two steering wheels. Of course, the girls think they both deserve their own steering wheel. Fortunately, with Grandma and Grandpa there, they each got their own special cart. Success!
And of course, we needed to go to Chick-fil-a and the play area there for lunch. In the past, Lydia would climb up the play area, get to the top, and then be too nervous to come back down, so Tanja would have to squeeze her way up to help coax her down. This time, Lydia made it to the top, but we were able to bribe her back down by promising her a dinner mint. Guess that's progress. Here's Karina jumping off the slide there.
Karina being silly in our shelving unit after I caught Lydia hiding in there. Unfortunately, by the time I got the camera, Lydia had come out and wouldn't go back in for a picture since she hates having her picture taken. Karina, on the other hand, is an eager model.
Karina colored and decorated some Frozen t-shirts that Grandma brought, one for her and one for Lydia.
We went to the Washington DC Temple visitor center one day. Lydia really liked the pretty flowers.

Grandma and Karina had an intensely competitive game of Jenga going.
We took a trip to Cunningham Falls since we had such a good time there earlier in the year. We hiked up to the waterfall, and Karina made the whole 1.25 mile round trip walking over some reasonably steep terrain. We were very proud of her.
Grandma found a fallen tree at the waterfall and thought it would make a good see-saw, so the girls went over and bounced a little with her.
Lydia got out and tried walking a bit too. She was very careful navigating around the tree roots.

After returning from our hike, we ate a picnic lunch and then spent a lot of time at the lakefront beach. Even though we brought Lydia some swim diapers, she rushed to the water too quickly for us to get them on, so we decided to just let her wear her normal diapers. They filled up with water very quickly and she was really cute waddling around with her big heavy diaper bouncing around.
The girls enjoyed playing in the sand and splashing around.
Grandpa buried Lydia's toes and she thought it was hilarious.
Back at home, Tanja and I took advantage of free babysitting to go out to dinner. The girls had a movie night and also played on the deck. I thought these pictures from Grandma's phone were cute.
It was a great visit, and the girls relished the extra attention. Thanks, Grandma and Grandpa!
