We always attend our annual HOA party (there are about 125 houses in our home owner's association). We figure we are paying for the party, so we might as well eat the catered food and enjoy the entertainment. This year there was a magician/juggler who put on a fun show and then made balloons for the kids. Both Karina and Lydia were very pleased with their flower and heart.
Lydia of course managed to pop her balloon and Karina was nice enough to wait in line for her and get her another. Then Lydia popped that one too, and even though the magician was gone, an older girl gave her hers. I think Lydia finally ended up coming home with a purple balloon sword. The neighborhood kids were all riding their bikes at the end of the cul-de-sac and our girls were having a blast joining in on the fun. Lydia insisted on holding her balloon while riding, which is how she kept popping her prized possessions.
We recently went to the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore. We got to tour some old trains and look at other historic ones. Below is Lydia inside a train engine. At one point she fell from a step and face-planted onto the floor in the train engine car, which you can guess from the pictures is hard metal. After I tried to comfort her, she immediately squirmed out of my arms and ran back to the scene of the accident at the engine to climb it again. A man standing nearby looked at her and said "That is one tough kid." She is our little daredevil.
Here we are in front of an 1863 train decorated exactly like the one used for Abraham Lincoln's funeral procession:
We also took an actual train ride at the museum along a portion of the historic B&O (Baltimore and Ohio) railroad. It was interesting, but definitely not the prettiest part of Baltimore. The ride drove through a dilapidated and graffitied section of town, but I suppose it was interesting in that it is not part of town I would ever intentionally go through myself.
And finally a couple pictures of the girls admiring a train model and walking around the museum.
Back at home, someone loves to stuff her face with frosting! Karina loves it too, but she is not quite so messy.
Who is that hiding in the coffee table?
Nate and Karina walked around the house like this and they were both very pleased with themselves, yelling for me to come and see. :-) Karina is pretty strong and has managed to "walk" like this for more than 20 feet.
Karina and I made these hats out of magformers. I made Karina's hat, and Karina made Lydia's.
When Nate washes the girls' hair, he likes to give Lydia mohawks and devil horns to get laughs from the girls. Her hair is starting to get too long to do it anymore, but here are a couple attempts:
Here is Karina enjoying some choke cherry syrup that Grandma and Grandpa made after picking the berries. Both girls devoured it quickly.
Our other news is that I am pregnant and we are expecting a little boy on or around March 3rd! We found out the gender last Thursday and are both excited and nervous! Karina is very pleased it is a boy because she says our family is even now: 3 girls (Mommy, Karina, Lydia) and 3 boys (Daddy, baby brother, and Snoopy). Nate doesn't think Snoopy counts, but he forgets that Karina calls Snoopy her wolf brother.
