May has flown by!
One morning, toward the beginning of May, we went to Masonville Cove Environmental Education Center for a kids science class. The girls learned about flowers, their parts, and how they are pollinated. In this next picture, they are pretending to be bees, flying from flower to flower with pollen, as they buzzed. When the teacher asked the kids if they wanted to pretend to be a bee, Lydia was the first to loudly shout 'YEAH', and she jumped out of her seat, ready to be a bee.
Mother's Day was earlier this month and Karina eagerly looked forward to celebrating by serving me a meal she made all by herself. She had talked about making me a dinner with a mixture of very strange ingredients that I didn't have the heart to tell her wouldn't taste good together. However on the morning of Mother's Day, she decided to make me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. She did everything all by herself and was grinning ear to ear as she presented it to me on the couch. She is sweet.
Derek is an eager smiler. He is my little charmer with a ready smile, and excited to have someone talk to him.
Karina is great with him. She dances for him, talks to him, tells him stories, has puppet shows for him, and showers him with compliments and smiles. Derek adores her and rewards her with his grin. If I have something I need to do with Lydia (for example sit in her room until she falls asleep for her nap, which can take 30 minutes), I can ask Karina to babysit Derek. I can hear her from upstairs as she happily entertains her little brother and he seems quite content with his engaging babysitter.

Last Saturday we went to the Armed Forces Day at the National Cryptologic Museum. After a successful bean bag toss, we won ice cream coupons. They each devoured theirs, along with the colorful sprinkles. Lydia thought the sprinkles were so good, she kept trying to pick some off the sidewalk that had fallen from other kids' ice cream cones. We had to keep telling her anything on the ground is dirty, though she didn't seem to agree.
We got to go inside of an armored vehicle. It is the same type that the four-star generals, like General Alexander, use in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the girls got to stick their heads out of the top, where a shooter might be stationed.
Then we toured a Hazmat truck and the highlight was sitting in the driver's seat and buckling and unbuckling their seat belts. They did this about 10 times in a row, because it was so entertaining.
There were other activities like a scavenger hunt, petting police dogs, walking in a straight line and through an obstacle course with 'drunk glasses' on, etc.
Derek fits in his Bumbo seat. He has some competition though, because Lydia likes to pretend she is a baby and sit in it too.

Mimi arrived this morning and we are looking forward to the next week with his visit. The girls are ecstatic.
