He does get vicious at times by grabbing faces, hair, or whatever else he can get his hands on, and then opening his mouth really wide to attack you. Maybe he thinks he is being affectionate and kissing you...I don't really know. Here he is assaulting Mommy's nose.
You have to be very careful too, since his teeth are pretty sharp. We had talked about his vampire teeth coming in first. It has been a struggle to get a good picture of his fangs, but here is the latest attempt from over 3 weeks ago. I don't know how much longer it will be before his other teeth come in which will lessen the effect, but we will try again for more fang pictures soon.
Mommy's not the only one who he will attack. Anyone on the floor is automatically fair game. Here's Karina giggling in anticipation of the attack.
And here is Derek swooping down to suck her blood...or at least make her giggle a little bit more.
Speaking of Karina, she had a crazy hair day in school one day. Mommy helped her come up with one of the craziest hairstyles I have ever seen.
Now that Derek is starting to eat baby food, we need to keep him extra hydrated, so he has been practicing drinking water from his bottle. Lydia is very helpful and brings it to him whenever Mommy or Daddy are otherwise occupied.

We went to our local pumpkin patch that we have gone to the last couple years. Unfortunately, since we went the second weekend, all the larger pumpkins had been taken from the patch we get coupons to go to, so we didn't bother trying to carve them this year. But we definitely had fun on the hay ride and choosing which pumpkins to pick. Since it was a nice day, we tried for a family picture (at least as much of a family picture as we could get with a family member taking it). These didn't turn out too bad.
Karina took this next one - she loves using the camera and she is getting pretty good with it.
Derek thought it was fun to sit on the soft grass and try to eat leaves, hay, grass, and whatever else he could find.
The girls and I had a race to see who could pump water into their rain gutter to make their rubber duck float to the end fastest. Karina won.
Karina was excited to celebrate her half birthday. It was a good excuse to make some delicious pumpkin cupcakes.
One night while we were folding clothes, Derek was making his usual mischief and we needed to redirect his energies. I put him in the laundry basket on a whim. To complete the effect, I put the other basket on top. He thought it was so cool to be placed in jail like that.
Halloween festivities were a long drawn out affair around here with multiple parties and events. Of course, the girls wanted different costumes for most or all of these events, just to make it extra fun. First up was a trunk or treat at the church. Karina was a baker/chef and Lydia was Anna from the movie Frozen.
Derek wore the chick costume that Karina and Lydia wore their first Halloweens. I, obviously, am a chick magnet, so it fell to me to carry Derek around all the time while the girls were trick or treating in the church parking lot as one of my accessories. After three kids wearing the chick outfit and me being the chick magnet, I am finally realizing that maybe Tanja has been preying on my love of puns all these years just so that I was the one carrying the baby trick or treating. Oh well, it was worth it.
Next up in the Halloween celebration were school parties. This time, Karina was a fairy and Lydia was a vintage witch wearing the same witch costume that Tanja and Karina wore when they were her age (and that Lydia wore last year). I think it's fun having an heirloom costume.
Tanja and I went to both of the girls' parties in their classes. Here is Lydia going trick or treating around the school with her class.
The third Halloween celebration event was in the neighborhood. All the kids got dressed up and had a parade through the neighborhood that ended at a table where the kids (unfortunately not the adults) got a cupcake and a Capri Sun. This time, Karina and Lydia wore matching Home Depot aprons. Here is a group shot of kids in the neighborhood.
Finally, it was time for the real deal on Halloween night. Karina wore her Anna costume from Frozen and had her hair braided to complete the look.
Lydia wore the witch costume again.
Derek didn't really have a costume, though honestly in retrospect, he kind of looked like a monster eating a bumblebee. We tried to take a few pictures of him against some of the beautiful leaves in our neighborhood.
