Winter Winding Down

One day at work Tanja told me that Lydia had something to tell me when I got home. I was naturally nervous, but Tanja's tone indicated it wasn't an emergency situation. When I got home, Lydia's hair was quite a bit shorter. She had been playing with the scissors or something and decided to cut some of her hair. Here is the aftermath along with Lydia's guilty look.

Of course, Derek has made a name for himself as a bully around our house, and he has pulled chunks of hair out of Karina and Lydia's heads in the past, so unfortunately it is not that unusual to find locks of hair in someone's hand. He may be a bully, but he is a well-dressed and charming bully when he wants to be.

We do have cute kids.

For Christmas, the girls got nightgowns with matching doll-sized nightgowns. Lydia put her doll nightgown on her stuffed beagle, Emma.  Emma has been wearing her nightgown ever since.

And Karina dressed up one of her dolls.

Sometimes, they wrap themselves together and walk around the house train-style.

Here are the girls dressing up like twins. Lydia also got earmuffs with polar bear ears sticking up, and Lydia has been wearing them almost non-stop since then. She takes them off for bath time, and has to take them off in her pre-K class, but other than that, she is usually wearing them (yes, even to bed). I suppose there are worse fashion statements that she could be making.

Derek went through a phase where this Thomas the Tank Engine hoodie was his favorite item of clothing. Now, at least for the moment, I think he has moved on to a long sleeved T-shirt with a fire truck on it. This is good since I think the Thomas hoodie is too small to get around his head comfortably any more - he is growing too quickly!

We had a couple of inches of snow a week ago or so in what has been an otherwise essentially snow-free winter. Since the temperatures the next day were going to be well above freezing, we had to enjoy it while it lasted, so we bundled up and went out to play.

Here we are throwing snow balls off our deck.

Lydia wanted to build a snowman, and she did a great job (though it unfortunately didn't last more than an hour before it toppled over).

Derek had to come into the picture too.

Here she is next to her creation.

Then we went to try and clear the heavy snow off our trampoline.
