We have been having computer problems and have also had lots of visitors, so I am just now getting around to sorting through the 600 pictures we have taken since our last blogpost. On March 2nd, Derek turned 2 years old! It turned out to be a wonderful day for Derek because there were such powerful wind gusts that day that both Nate's work and the girls' school were cancelled! By the end of the day there were downed trees seemingly everywhere. The day off school and work meant that Derek got to spend the day with the whole family. That made for quite a birthday present for him.
Karina got him a fun matching game that she bought with her own money. Derek has enjoyed playing with it and getting the cards to come out of the container.
Derek is obsessed with construction vehicles, all trucks, and emergency vehicles. Every day when we go on walks, we have to go past a construction site where 10 houses are being built in order to admire the excavators, bull dozers, wheel loaders, and dump trucks that are there off and on. Since everyone was home on his birthday, we went to HyperKidz, a new indoor playground targeted at the 10 and under crowd that had just opened. It was obvious that we weren't the only ones based on how crowded it was that day. It was a huge hit, and the kids keep asking when we can go next time (even after we went again with them with Mimi and Mormor later in the month).
There were fun slides, endless stuff to climb on and through, jump and swing on, and other fun things.
Once Derek discovered this massively tall slide, he wanted to go on it over and over again. He wouldn't let anyone hold him going down. The girls loved going on it too. It was fun because there are four slides side by side, so groups/families can all go down together.
Derek wouldn't even wait for a family member to go down the slide with him. He would sit at the top of the slide, count to 3 on his fingers and aloud, and then slide down with his hands waving in the air, like it was a roller coaster.:
Everyone liked Derek's birthday cake. Derek's favorite part was the m&ms on top.

Karina lost her second tooth!
Happy birthday to our funny and charming 2 year old.
Derek's 2 year old stats were:
Height: 36.0 in (91%) or 37.5 inches (99%)
Weight: 34 lbs 6 oz (97%)
The nurse recorded his height as 36 inches, but he clearly wasn't standing up straight while he was crying and screaming at her. After the appointment, I measured him at the doctor's office and got 37.0 inches. Then at home, I measured him against our wall, which I know has completely accurate heights, and he was 37.5 inches. That height is more in line with his past percentiles, so that is what I am going with.
