Easter and More Homeschooling

We have continued our homeschooling adventure and home quarantine.  One afternoon for science, we made butter.  We put some cream in a jar and shook the jar for 15-20 minutes.  Then we strained the buttermilk from the butter, mixed in some salt, and ate our creation on some rolls:-)

For P.E. we occasionally do 'Cosmic Kids Yoga', where a British lady tells a story (e.g. Harry Potter, Star Wars, Frozen) and incorporates yoga moves into the story. The kids enjoy it.

Cuddling with Snoopy is a highlight for all the kids, every single day.  Snoopy probably thinks quarantine is great!

I also celebrated my birthday.  I came downstairs to two treasure hunts from Karina and Lydia.  After I found my presents, there were word searches, jokes, and scrambled words to solve.  It kept me busy for an hour.  Derek also made me flowers with messages.  My favorite message was "Dear Mommy, I love you.  You're my baby.  You look so cute." :-)  I had a great birthday.

Easter came the next day.  We hid about 200 eggs, though only some of the eggs had candy.  Poor Karina was limited by the size of her bucket, but her pockets and hands were full with eggs as well. 

Some neighbors invited us to a socially distanced Easter egg hunt.  They also have ducks and ducklings:

Karina and her friend Christine walked on the pipes in the pond that backs to Christine's house after the Easter egg hung.  The pond was drained and is being redone this year.

We also colored Easter eggs at home:

For another science lesson, we made a model of the solar system.  First we measured the width of our house.  Then using an app, we determined that if the sun were a ball the size of our house, then Mercury would be a 2 inch ball, Venus 5 inches, Earth 5 inches, Mars 3 inches, Jupiter 58 inches, Saturn 48 inches, Uranus 19 inches, Neptune 18 inches, and dwarf planet Pluto 1 inch.  We hunted around our house for balls and other objects that were the right size to represent each planet.  The kids then lined up the planets in order, with the kiddie pool being Jupiter and the playhouse being Saturn.
