After spending a week at the Stuart beach house with Nate's family, we drove down to Miami to my parents, where we had left Snoopy. Nate flew home to Maryland the next day so he could get back to work, but the kids and I stayed for an extra week.
The pool was warm enough for the kids to swim in every day. The kids did have virtual school for 5 or so hours per day, but there was still time for fun before and after school and during their long lunch/recess break.
Derek racing Mormor. Mormor let him win.
Derek's 5th birthday was only a couple weeks away and since Mimi wouldn't get to celebrate it with him in person, we had a mini birthday party for Derek at their house.
Karina and Lydia made him cards and he got a few presents from Mimi/Mormor and from me (and Nate, though he wasn't there physically). Derek is good at saying 'thank you' with hugs.
Karina's card was a treasure hunt around the house.
These dinosaurs have been a huge hit. The best part was that they came with a book describing each of the 12 dinosaurs and now our kids know all these weird names and can rattle off obscure facts.
Another day, we went to the beach at Matheson Hammock park. There were lots of people who like to waste money on cars there, because first we saw a Lamborghini LP 700-4 and then a Saleen S7.
$400,000 valued Lamborghini:
$600,000 valued Saleen S7:
The Saleen owner must have been pretty proud of his car because he had a professional photographer taking pictures of the car with windsurfers in the ocean in the background.
At the beach, Karina and Lydia spent a long time looking for miniature conch shells and were quite successful. Derek was busy digging in the sand.
Back at the house, Lydia and Derek had a hose fight. They sprayed and sprayed each other. Derek's smile in the below picture shows how much fun he thought it was.
Lydia was soaked too:
And that wrapped up our nearly 3-week Florida adventure. When we flew home to Maryland, Mormor flew with us and Snoopy. She stayed for a week and celebrated Derek's birthday with us. Thanks for hosting us and taking care of Snoopy, Mimi and Mormor!
