Miami Visit

In August, I took the kids to Miami to visit Mimi and Mormor and to swim in the pool.  We swam in the pool twice a day.  The kids never got into the car during the whole visit because they just wanted to stay home.  We also went on walks, and the kids had to practice piano every day and do some school work.

Derek is not always easy to motivate to practice piano.  Mimi helping:

90 degree pool water is very appealing and easy to get used to.

Pool activities included Marco Polo every day, and some Monkey in the Middle mixed in.  It seemed to work well when Mimi was in the middle, as he was never good at getting the ball.

When we weren't swimming, Lydia and Derek were working on their lizard home.  They could spend hours perfecting their habitat.  Many lizards were spotted in the home they created from branches, a broken concrete bridge, and other treasures they found.  Their home design was a success since lizards definitely came:-)

Derek also got swimming lessons twice a day.  He was pretty scared to remove the floatie/puddle jumper, even though he didn't need it.  By the end of our trip, he had become more confident, but still was not interested in swimming with his head underwater.

The day before we left, Derek started swimming the length of the pool.  Before that, he only swam the width of the shallow end (though shallow is a relative term since even there it is probably 4 feet deep before quickly dropping deeper).
