Yesterday we went to nearby
Villa Viscaya, a monstrous estate built in 1914, that sits on the Biscayne Bay. It is about as historic as anything gets in Miami, and consists of a mansion with gorgeous gardens on the ocean. Apparently, when the mansion was built 100 years ago, only 10,000 people lived in Miami, and of those, 1,000 were working at Vizcaya during its construction. In my dad's 29 years in Miami, he had somehow never been there. We took a guided tour of the inside (where no pictures were allowed), and took picture upon picture upon picture in the gardens. It was just too pretty to not try to get great shots. Karina was cute as ever. I think we took over 100 photos, and I've just included a small sampling here on the blog.

The stone ship sculpture serves to break the water coming in from the ocean, and was apparently used as a place to entertain and party during Vizcaya's heyday. We enjoyed the views of the beautiful ocean in the back of the estate!
